Doula Mentorship Program

"Doula-ing the Doula"

There’s a need for doulas to be doula-ed. We begin this path full of optimism and hope, wanting the very best for the birthing people we support. We want to believe that beautiful, empowered birth is possible.

Yet too often, doulas burn out fast. The average doula will not continue birth work past 3 years. It is too easy to get beaten down by the medical system we work within.

We get traumatized by the way we see our clients treated, often suffering secondary trauma. We struggle with guilt and shame when our clients are mistreated or bullied, wondering “Could I have done something differently to prevent that from happening?” We face challenging situations where we may have no idea what to do or how to support our client because the challenges are so difficult.

My heart is for doulas freshly beginning their journey into birth work to feel loved, supported, and empowered - to have the experience of getting to be “doula-ed” through their birth work journey in the same way that we seek to support our doula clients through their birth journey.

In order for us to build sustainable, long-term careers in the birth realm, we must nurture and nourish ourselves, deeply rooting in community and support that we can turn to in times of need. I hope my doula mentorship support can be a facet of that for you.

"I met Kirsten when I was a brand new doula and I was unsure of my myself and my role in the doula world. Kirsten welcomed me with open arms and helped shape the doula I am today. She supported me through some rough patches of doula work and has been my biggest cheerleader.

I would not be where I am in my business today without Kirsten’s mentorship and friendship. She has helped me to have the confidence to put myself out there.

From my first interviews to my first births to now, she has always been in my corner and I couldn’t imagine this journey without her."
