Professional Goals
Goal #1: Focus on excelling in my academic studies
MCU provides an excellent comprehensive education in community midwifery. I aim to dive deep into my studies to gain all the knowledge and wisdom available through my school.

Goal #2: Find clinical placements with skilled midwives

I would like to obtain clinical experience in both home birth care and birth center care. I would also like to experience a clinical placement in both a high volume practice as well as a low volume practice. Learning from a diverse group of midwives will teach me an array of skills and approaches to community midwifery care.

Goal #3: Become the midwife that Alabama needs
I am passionate about the birthing families of Alabama and their access to quality midwifery care. It is important to me to strive to provide the care that my community deserves. Digging deeper into disparities and equity solutions is vital to my midwifery path. I also want to fully explore the ways in which community midwifery can improve outcomes and give greater support to birthing families.

Personal Goals
Goal #1: Strengthen my family
I believe that being a midwife of excellence means balancing work life and family life and prioritizing the health and wellbeing of my family. Through this focus on a strong home life, my clients will benefit from having a midwife who is balanced and fulfilled personally.

Goal #2: Build physical stamina

Birthwork is hard physical work. I would like to expand my yoga practice as well as incorporating weightlifting and interval training to increase my personal wellbeing and be a healthier midwife better able to serve my clients.

Goal #3: Nourish my nervous system
Birthwork is also hard on the nervous system, with adrenaline being a normal part of on call life and in the sometimes life or death moments of birth. Through means of restorative yoga, meditation, and other bodywork, I want to maintain a centeredness in my parasympathetic nervous system so my sympathetic nervous system is better able to respond in acute situations requiring immediate action.
